Be Careful What You Ask For #1
A reflection on desire and consequence, emphasizing that outcomes come with structure, responsibility, and cost.
I notice that I often want the result without fully considering what it actually requires. It is not just about getting what I want. It is about accepting everything that comes with it.
Looking back, I see how much of my attention was focused on outcomes. I wanted to feel a certain way, have certain things, or have life look a certain way, without fully considering the responsibilities or consequences attached to those desires.
When I think that way, I end up focusing on the reward while ignoring the cost. It becomes a kind of incomplete thinking.
Recovery is teaching me that every outcome is built on a structure. If I want growth, stability, or change, then I am also choosing discipline, consistency, and discomfort. They cannot be separated.
So the real question becomes not just what I want, but whether I am willing to accept everything that comes with it. Am I prepared to take on the responsibility that comes with the outcome I’m asking for?
This also connects directly to purpose, because having a direction means accepting the process required to move toward it.
For me, this is about learning to think more fully. What I ask for is always connected to what I am willing to take on. Today, I am trying to align what I want with what I am genuinely willing to accept.
